Rock lights, answered.

How many rock lights do I need, and which size?

Four cover the wheel wells. Eight adds the frame rails and is the most common setup. Twelve to twenty light the full underbody. Our guide to how many rock lights you need breaks it down by truck.

On size, more LEDs means more output from each light, and ride height changes how much of it lands on the ground. The 9 LED is the entry light, the 24 and 36 step up, and the 48 is the biggest compact housing before the high-output 90, 108, 128 and 160 LED. Compare 9, 24 or 36 LED rock lights and the 48 LED rock lights.

What does pure white mean?

Every rock light we sell is built to the same pure white target, so a set you add later in the same LED size matches the set you already run. Here is what pure white actually means.

Magnets or bolts?

Bolts and nuts come with every rock light. The 9, 24, 36, 48 and 108 LED offer a Magnetic option at checkout, and our rock light magnets fit the 9, 24, 36, 48, 104 and 108 LED. The 90, 128 and 160 LED have five magnets built into the housing, so they never need the magnet accessory. See magnetic vs bolt-on mounting.

How are rock lights wired, and will they drain my battery?

Rock lights are hardwired. Each light has a 2-pin lead that you extend back to a wiring harness, a switched and fused circuit, or an upfitter switch. Plan on 1 to 4 hours depending on how many you run. See the rock light installation guide and how to wire rock lights.

A normal set will not drain a healthy battery, because LEDs draw very little. The one way to run it down is to leave them on with the engine off for a long stretch, so turn them off when you park or wire them key-on. More on whether rock lights drain your battery.

Are rock lights legal in Texas?

Steady pure white or amber accent lighting is generally allowed on Texas roads. Flashing, strobing, and red or blue toward the front are not. This is general guidance, not legal advice, so read are rock lights legal in Texas before you drive with them on.
